Christmas came REALLY fast this year. There were activities every day it seemed between trips to weddings, parties, baptisms, recitals, etc...It was just a case of time flying without any layovers. So by the time kids were out of school it was time to RELAX!
The Ferguson cousins and Rice cousins came into town and despite it being cold we went out hiking.. It was awesome to see the cousins do "# spontaneous caroling" and strike crazy poses and jump out to try and scare us. Jocelyn was hurting half way through and needed piggy backing and thankfully uncles were willing and able to give her awesome rides. She struggled with sore joints whenever the weather changed last year.
On Christmas Eve we did the tradition dinner and trip to the farm that everyone loves. Sitting there with cattle lowing and hearing the nativity story really has left an impact on all of us and it just wouldn't seem like Christmas without it....even when the farm is muddy and wet and freezing.
At home the kids opened jammies from the Fergusons and all concocted a plan to sleep together in Cami's room so the first one up would wake the others. They tried waking us up at 5...We told them they had to go back to sleep until 6 which amazingly they did. At 6:00 on the dot they jumped on our bed raring to go.
We went down and checked out Santa's goodies and went to church. We (as a family) were asked to sing Away in a Manger...Good thing Brent can sing and the rest of us moved our mouths like we were singing....except Creed who just stood there...but he didn't mess with the microphone (which we were truly worried about after our practice on Saturday) so it was a success.
After church we came home and opened presents (then had an epic Nerf gun battle thanks to papa weight) and then went to Grandma's for the traditional waffle breakfast. We spent the rest of the day with family.
A few days later we went up north and froze our bums off. It was so so so cold and snowy that we only left the house twice in a week, once for church and once for sledding. I will say that Brent went outside several times to snow blow the driveway and the kids tried to play in the snow in the yard about once but it was too cold.
We went tubing at soldier hallow. It was so much fun. The kids were all old enough to ride and not be carried or taken care of. It truly felt like having fun as a family and not me providing fun for my family. I love this stage of life we are getting to. There was a tow rope at the bottom of the hill and it was just as much fun to ride it up as it was to slide down. Anyway Christmas break was great but cold....a good time to make memories.
