Princess Camp

At the dance studio where Taryn and Cami took lessons last spring there was a one week princess camp. Since cousin Rachel was here and it was only for older girls we decided to let Cami and Rachel sign up. They had a blast learning princess dances, new ballet moves, doing a princess craft, eating princess snacks, and having a princess parade and dance on the last day. For the parade each girl dressed as their favorite princess. I thought Cami would chose Cinderella but she went with Ariel in the end (no prodding from me-honest) and Rachel went with Snow White. Thank you Grandma Weight for fun dress ups. What a fun way to spend a week during a hot summer! And even funner to spend it with a cousin!

ps -I would just like to officially acknowledge that I did the pictures by myself this time! WAHOO!!!!!!

Swimming lessons

After preschool and dance ended the summer hit a loll for about a week. After that we jumped right into swimming lessons. Cami started in the 1st level class. I wasn't sure she was even going to get in on the first day but she sucked it up and braved up and even had fun. Cami learned how to go under water to get colored rings and how to float (more or less). On the last day she was even brave enough to go down the water slide (something she has ALWAYS feared and avoided).

Taryn and I did the mom and tot class and boy was she crazy! She is mostly the reason we had to do swimming lessons because she has no fear. It is scary to be around water with a kid that doesn't fear and has no clue how to swim. I am not sure she learned any more about swimming but she did have a blast (particularly taking a running start to jumping in and playing duck duck goose around the tide pool thing). Taryn from day one begged to go down the slide and true to form was yelling "AGAIN MOMMY AGAIN!" the moment we hit the water after the first time down. It is fun to have a kid who is not afraid of things sometimes but it is also nice to have a kid who does have a sense of boundaries....We're so lucky to have one of each!

Taryn the monkey-yes that is Brent. He took the 3rd of July off and the 4th. She has soooo much fun with Daddy.

4th of July

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY

We had so much fun this 4th of July. We started off the day true to a rice family tradition of a scavenger hunt breakfast. After the kids ran around the yard looking for clues to the map they found breakfast waiting on the picnic tables in grandma's backyard. Grandma went all out with festive doughnuts, yogurt, fruit, cereal, juice, and more. It was so much fun to pass along a tradition and I hope our kids get to have the same great memories of 4th of July that I do.

After breakfast there was a carnival thing at the park. So despite the heat we braved the park. The kids had a blast on the carousel swing thing (after Taryn quite screaming long enough to realize it was fun) and in the jump castle thing. Grandma got everyone snow cones and we walked around for a couple minutes before we decided we had heat exhaustion and needed to go home.

The girls played with cousins and watched a movie while Brent took a much needed nap/break. That evening we had a BBQ at our house and broke a Dora pinata. The girls weren't sure why they needed to hit Dora or why it was ok until the candy flew and then they were all over it. We attempted to watch fireworks this year. After thirty seconds of Cami screaming and scared, scaring Taryn, we headed inside to bed. (yes Cami is still terrified of loud noises). All in all it was a great day and it was fun to spend it with family for a change...

Anyone this tall can't read the sign...even if they can will the excitement really stop them?
